WINTER FUEL

The UK Government is planning to stop winter fuel payments to ex-pats residing in 5 European countries, Malta included from the autumn of 2015.

You usually receive a winter fuel payment automatically if you receive a state pension, or any other social security benefit (not housing benefit, council tax reduction, child benefit or universal credit).

If you have not claimed before, you may claim if:

* you were born on or before 5th July 1952 ( for winter payment 2014-2015, this date changes every year).

* you were living in the UK throughout the week of 15th-21st September 2014.

*you may claim for a payment if you live in the European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland and you have a genuine link in the UK.

How much you get depends on your circumstances during the qualifying week.

You must make a claim for the year 2014-2015, before March 31st 2015.
