Well, it is officially Summer time now, at least as far as our clocks go. It is nice to see people shedding off some of their winter layers and generally looking happier. I wonder whether you have noticed how lovely the countryside around us is looking. Perhaps it is because of all the rain we have had this year, but I do not remember seeing so many lovely plentiful wild flowers in previous years when I am on my walks in the open areas surrounding us.
I thought it was a shame that the hour change took place on Mothering Sunday this year. For some lucky Mums, this day means extra time in bed, with perhaps, a nice cup of tea and their favourite biscuits brought for them on a tray, to accompany their Mother’s Day cards, by their loving husbands or children. However, this year the loss of an hour’s sleep that very morning, put paid to that. My daughters thought it was not fair!
Some 60 members and guests, including some BRA friends from St Paul’s Bay and Central Groups, enjoyed a really lovely Mother’s Day lunch at the Danish Village, organised as usual by Shirley. This was accompanied, instead of the one glass of wine that had been offered, by jugs of free flowing wine, which made everyone rather merry. The sun shone as well, which meant we could enjoy a drink sitting in the sun before our meal. All the ladies were presented with a lovely carnation in honour of their day. We also had a very good raffle, and I was lucky enough to win a bottle of Merlot!
Our April Coffee morning was attended by 48 members and guests. I was horrified to learn only two weeks before the day that the Speaker who had been booked to talk to us, was unable to come. However providence came up with the surgeon from the Knee and Hip Centre to visit us instead. Dr Rebers’ power point presentation was excellent and we look forward to seeing him and his lovely wife, who is the CEO of the Clinic, again in the autumn.
I shall be going to visit my family in the U.K. for Easter, so unfortunately I will not be with you for the April Coffee morning on the 25th at the Paradise Bay Hotel at 10.15am. However, Paul Tillbrook, who is the Hon Treasurer of the BRA, will be giving the Group an Update on Finance. I am sorry to miss his talk, which is always so informative, and I do hope he will have another clever quiz for you this time as well.
Enjoy the Easter break, and may the sun shine on us all.
Vicky
