St. George’s Day this year fell close to Easter which is always a problem with any event as quite a number of members like to spend Easter away. Despite this we did have a good turnout supported by members of the George Cross Island Association (GCIA) who were in Malta for their annual reunion.
Unfortunately our Association Patron, British High Commissioner, Rob Luke together with Louise sent his regrets. However we were delighted to welcome Deputy High Commissioner, Jon Knight, as our guest of Honour. It was a pleasure to see our newly elected Association Chairman, Jay Jones with husband Alan and members from all 6 BRA groups.
After a brief welcome from Group Chairman, Peter Robinson, the evening began with a rousing rendition of “Land of Hope and Glory” led by our vocalist for the evening, Julie James accompanied by George on keyboards. This was followed with “Grace” delivered by Frank Thompson of the GCIA.
The excellent meal was interspersed between courses by dancing and the raffle before being rounded off with the toast to St. George professionally delivered by Jon Knight.
A fitting celebration for the Patron Saint of England.
