Reminder for Certificate of Entitlement renewals
The Entitlement Unit in G’Mangia has asked that members be reminded of the procedure relating to this. Most of you are familiar with this document, which is issued in the Maltese Islands through the Entitlement Unit to those British citizens who have been deemed eligible (through application to the NHS Overseas Healthcare Services Unit) for medical treatment free at point of service in Maltese Government Hospitals or Clinics. This Certificate requires renewing (in accordance with the date shown on the CoE) through the Entitlement Unit in Malta who will check with the NHSOHS Unit that eligibility remains in place.
Renewal process – It is not necessary to go to the Entitlement Office to apply. But one month before Certificate will expire, take a copy of the CoE and either post this, with a covering letter, or scan it by email for action by the Entitlement Unit.
With the request for renewal, you should advise the Entitlement Unit of any changes in your circumstances – e.g. change of address, marital status, etc. There is no need to advise the Entitlement Unit of any change of address that takes place prior to renewal.
After checking continuing eligibility with the IPS, a new Certificate of Entitlement will be posted back to the address you have advised as current.
Entitlement Unit address is: Ground Floor Ex-Outpatient Block, St Luke’s Hospital, G’Mangia Hill, G’Mangia PTA1010. Or email is: entitlement.health@gov.mt
It is always advisable to carry a copy of the CoE with you in case any emergency arises which requires treatment at a Government facility. If you leave Malta or in case of a death, the CoE should be returned to the Entitlement Unit for cancellation.
