News from Southern Group’s Chairman

Now that Autumn is upon us with shorter days and we are well into the swing of things following our Summer break, it was gratifying to see 55 of you at our last coffee morning with an excellent presentation on local art by Vince Amos.

I would like to ask once again that those members that do not usually attend our coffee mornings on the 3rd Tuesday of the month make the effort to come to at least one as you only get out of something what you are willing to put in and we have a very good social gathering on these days.

Our last event was a visit to the Falconry attended by 39 members which was very interesting although it was a shame that it was so windy and the birds were unable to fly but we were all able to handle them. Because of the visit being cut short it was arranged for us all to visit the Chinese gardens of Serenity for a stroll around which have incidentally recently been refurbished and new buildings added to the already impressive area.

Our speaker for November 18th coffee morning will be Captain Paul Warren who will be talking with a power point presentation about the Order of St Lazarus and also the work done with Lepers in India.

Let’s hope that after the very windy weather recently which saw 40 odd boats retire from the Rolex Middle Sea Race and a few rainy days that we still get a Saint Martins summer with calmer and more pleasant warm days.

November is poppy month with remembrance Sunday being on the 9th this year.
