News from Gozo Group

A cold windy Friday 14th turned into a hot sultry evening when about 60 members and guests met at the Ghajnsielem Band Club for a Swinging 60’s Night. A great time was had dancing to the Voodoo Gurus and listening to Sarah.

At the beginning of the month our room at The Calypso was packed, with extra chairs being brought in, to cope with the 80 members and prospective  members who came to listen  to Alfred  Baldacchino   talk  about  Maltese   Trees   and  the Environment. An extremely passionate gentleman who cares deeply for the environment and its future. Alfred will return next year to  talk  on  either  Maltese  Wild Flowers  or Butterflies – your choice!

Our next Coffee Morning on April 7th will include a talk by Bert  Childers  on being a vet. For this  meeting we may have more chairs but fewer tables to accommodate our increasing numbers.

Our membership continues to grow and we have welcomed several new members this last month. To those of you who have not as yet renewed you may have a couple of days after receipt of this newsletter to get your applications in the post before the end of March. After that you will have a joining fee to pay. Another reminder  is that if you intend to come to the BRA AGM in Malta on 24th March you must have a current blue membership card.

On the 29th March we have organised a talk and demonstration by the Malta Fencing Association on Swords and Double  Edged Weapons  from 14-19 centuries. This will be at The Grand Hotel in Mgarr from 1900. Do tell your friends and come along. After the event you may have a snack or meal at the hotel, at your own cost.

The  FSEG – Friends of the Sick and Elderly in Gozo – are in need of volunteers in numerous areas. If you are interested in helping please contact me.

Clocks go forward on the 29th March and Good Friday is on 18th April so many of you may like to go to one or other of the Good Friday Processions which are held on the island.

I hope you are well, if not please let one of the committee know and I hope you get well soon  – certainly ready for the warmer weather which is hopefully on the way.

We heard this week of the death of Derek Worton, one our old members. We send Ro and her family our sincere condolences from the Group.
