Our Annual General Meeting was held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel on 14th March when approximately 30 people attended. Nominations were received and approved for the Committee, as well as accepting the Chairman’s and Treasurer’s reports. We gave our appreciation to Mavis Barrett for her work in maintaining the Committee prior to my BRA Central Group Newsletter arrival and also to Lyn Cuthbert, ( Vice Chair and Membership Secretary) , who is now retiring from Committee work.
Our thanks went also to Maureen Toll, ( BRA Hon Sec) and her husband , Frank , who have so diligently attended our meetings and provided support to the Group. Also to Christine, my wife, (BRA Welfare Co coordinator and Central Group Welfare Officer), who has provided both information and guidance to me and also so many of our Members, who have requested help and advice during the past year. Thanks also to Maureen Wright (Treasurer), Janet Vassallo (Secretary), and Margaret Marwick (Newsletter), and all the other Members who have helped and supported the Group during the past year.
Following the business of the AGM, our speaker was Richard J. Caruana, who is a designer and historian with special knowledge of the beginnings and development of Civil Aviation in Malta. He gave an excellent presentation including showing stamps he had personally designed, and a fascinating insight in to the events which created civil aviation up to the years following the impact of the Second World War I am sure that we shall be welcoming him back for another interesting talk in the future.
It is a time of change , too, for the BRA Council, as we say goodbye and a big thank you to Chairman Peter Robinson MBE ( and of course his wife Mary). He has for so many years steered the Association and furthered its interests. We await with interest the appointment of a new Chair (at the AGM on 24th March) who will hopefully represent our values and advocate well for the Association in the year to come.
I am sure you will join with me in conveying our thought to those of our Members who are unwell at this time and wishing them a speedy recovery. I look forward to seeing many of you at our next Coffee Morning – on Friday , 11th April at 10 15am – Corinthia Palace Hotel when Mr Adam Bugeja who is the Manager of Emcare, will present the operation of Telecare Malta – an initiative which is Government subsidized , and offers a telephone call scheme for older people at home.
