We had a beautiful sunny day for our visit to the Meridiana Wine Estate.
The Meridiana wine was established in April 1987, with a mission to produce internationally acclaimed wines from grapes grown on Maltese soil. The estate has many different varieties of grapes over 19 hectares (47 acres). Most of this ground is reclaimed from the airfield which was used during World War II.
We enjoyed a brief history of the Estate and its owners, as well as a guided tour of stainless-steel tanks that are used for wine making and storage. Some of us also ventured downstairs to the underground cellars that are filled with French oak barriques used to mature the red wines.
Then we moved on to the serious business of discussing and tasting the wines.
