The Sliema/St. Julian’s Group Chairman, Peter Robinson, welcomed 48 members and 2 visitors from other groups to the Group’s AGM.
Mr Robinson reported on the Group’s activities during the year up to 31st December 2013. Social morning attendances have reduced in the last year with a total of 523 (589) persons attending 8 functions. The attendances at lunches have also decreased by 92 this year with a total of 301 (393) attending the monthly lunches.
The visits programme was a little limited during the year with just 3 visits organised to the The Classic Car Museum, The Limestone Heritage and the National Maritime Museum/Inquisitors Palace, Vittoriosa.
There was a slight decrease in membership by 11 over the year to 259 members. Several members have returned to the UK and unfortunately several have passed away. Condolences have been given on behalf of the Group to family and friends.
The library was very ably organised during the year by Julie Pace and Christine Fothergill. Julie Pace stood down towards the end of the year and Audrey Eager has taken her place. Thanks was given to these ladies for all their efforts throughout the year.
Goodbyes and good wishes were also given to two Committee members who were standing down. With great reluctance Hilary Camilleri (Welfare Officer) has decided that after 20 years or more dealing with the welfare of our members it is time for her to stand down. John Chambers (Vice-Chairman) also decided to retire after approximately 10 years on the Committee. These two valued members of the team will be missed.
A new Committee was elected during the AGM with a show of hands made from the members present to confirm approval.
The Posts of Welfare Officer and Vice-Chairman are vacant. Should anyone wish to apply for this roles please email info@britishresidentsinmalta.org for details.
